Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge Reopens In Nakuru

To say that 2020 has been a blow to the tourism industry and has put a damper on everyone’s travel plans would be an understatement. However, a lockdown was necessary, and the various measures put in place by the government has allowed the reopening of the industry fairly soon. So, it is finally time to switch off Netflix, leave your bedroom and take on new adventures and make cherished memories.

 

As of July 15th, Kenya is now open to local travel and therefore, several lodges and hotels around the country have begun to welcome visitors. One of these includes Sarova Lion Hill Game Lodge in Nakuru. Sarova Group, the giant Kenyan chain, is well known for its lavish hotels, resorts and game lodges and for nearly fifty years, has provided guests with some of the most unforgettable experiences, whether it be for business or leisure. Every stay is complemented by luxury, friendly staff and all the natural beauty Kenya has to offer.

 

Sarova Lion Hill in Nakuru particularly, remains a distinguished game lodge and a favoured destination for those exploring Nakuru. The lodge is situated at the heart of the Great Rift Valley, overlooking the scenic Lake Nakuru, which is home to the most beautiful pink flamingos, and also provides picturesque views of Lake Nakuru National Park. In fact, the architectural design is so cleverly thought out that most rooms and seating areas have access to these panoramic sights. Additionally, so as to not destroy the already stunning environment, Sarova Lion Hill has incorporated the natural landscaping of tall acacia trees and winding walkways into their surroundings. Therefore, the lodge feels well connected to nature, which is what allures most people to safaris in the first place.

 

All of the sixty-seven elegant bedrooms are built in a chalet style with en-suite faculties and verandas. There are twenty standard rooms, forty-two superior rooms, two junior suites and one honeymoon suite.

 

 

General and recreational facilities include laundry, valet and babysitting services, a swimming pool, massage parlour and a souvenir shop.

 

Like most accommodations in Kenya, evening entertainment is also a big part of the pleasant experience offered, and people are encouraged to enjoy (and sometimes participate in) the various traditional dance performances that take place each night.

 

Furthermore, while not as popular as Amboseli, Maasai Mara or Tsavo for game drives, Lake Nakuru National Park boasts a rich concentration of wildlife including but not limited to, hippos, waterbucks, Colobus monkeys, lions, leopards and striped hyenas. The park also contains an animal sanctuary for white and black Rhinos and Rothschild’s giraffes which are unfortunately endangered species. There is no other place where you can take a picture of a rhino with a carpet of pink flamingos in the background.

 

There is also an opportunity to have a private champagne breakfast in the bush after an early morning game drive or a sundowner after an evening game drive!

 

If you have the time, the lodge offers a day trip to visit Lake Naivasha and Crescent Island, to partake in a walking safari among giraffes, zebras and other herbivorous animals too.

 

All of this makes Nakuru a bucket list-worthy location and Sarova Lion Hill a place worth the visit. However, I do recognise that due to the current situation, many people are apprehensive to travel, even if it is within the country, and that is certainly understandable. Thus, I will share with you the various actions being taken by the Sarova Group to make those willing to travel, have a comfortable, but also incredibly safe stay.

 

In consultation with public health experts, they have redefined their safety and cleaning standards to ensure a safe environment for not only the guests but also each and every one of their employees. All employees, therefore, wear masks and any other necessary equipment to reduce the chance of transmission. Temperature measurements are taken at each entry point, and hand sanitising stations are found all around the lodge and are in easy reach.

 

While checking in, each guest is given a sanitised key card to minimise physical contact, and social distancing measures have been put in place wherever possible, and especially in restaurants. Any surface someone could come in contact with, such as doorknobs, tables and remotes are regularly sterilised with hospital-grade disinfectant too. Most importantly, to enforce and upgrade hygiene standards, Sarova has invested in the latest ultra-violet light disinfectant technology, which disinfects water much faster than chlorine as it kills microorganisms within a shorter time.

 

On a more enjoyable note, the mixologists prepare immune-boosting drinks so you can both appreciate a delicious beverage while benefiting from its nutrients for the sake of your body.

 

Ultimately, while the idea of travelling seems a little daunting right now, remaining safe and cautious while also having a good time is not as difficult as it may seem. Naturally, we will all need to be a little more careful with our movements and be more aware of our surroundings, but this is a small price to pay to keep each other protected and do our part to curb the infection rate. Adhere to the rules and regulations and most importantly, wear a mask, so soon enough, Kenya will get back to the thriving and lively country it has always been.
