As an avid traveler I always have a wish list of dream destinations for the year within the region or outside the country. The Spirit of the Masai Mara was on the top of my list because it is a scenic, spectacular setting to those seeking a serene escape surrounded by the Mara. Combining traditional materials with modern design, the hotel is not your home away from home, it is much better. There is something brazenly pleasant about sleeping in a bush. They have outstanding hospitality in a relaxed atmosphere coupled up with their incredible facilities and it was one of my most memorable stays in the Mara. walked into my room and I was in awe. A trip to the Spirit of the Masai Mara gives you a deeper appreciation of the incredible experiences in life. Dominic and Kevin were our skillful safari guides as we drove around the Siana Conservancy. The cruiser has ponchos to keep warm if it gets chilly, a cooler filled with your choice of beverages while you are on the drive and there is a provision of Wi-Fi in the cruiser as well. A wildlife safari puts you right in the middle of all the action and you get a first-hand account of an epic phenomenon and live to tell the tale. You have the chance to catch a glimpse of giraffes, lions, waterbucks, impalas, zebras, elands, elephants and many species of birds in the Siana Conservancy.
If you opt for a thrilling night game drive you will be able to see elusive nocturnal animals such as white-tailed mongoose, pangolin, porcupine and bush babies. You are able to decide whether you want a half day safari with a picnic breakfast and then return to the lodge for lunch. I would advise you to take the full day game drive which includes a picnic breakfast and lunch. The guides were very experienced and knowledgeable making the drive educational and informative.
You will enjoy a happy collision of cuisine, culture and beauty if you choose to visit the luxury getaway. Meals are a perfected blend of Kenyan and continental cuisine. You will love the intimacy and charm in the dining sector. The chef makes the meals the way you like and they have flexible meal times upon request. There is an a la carte menu provided if the buffet options do not tickle your fancy. They have an organic garden with fresh ingredients that are used to prepare your meals.
If you do not want to dine in the compound you can request for a bush breakfast or a bush dinner experience in the National Park. The bar is fully stocked with premier wines, spirits, liquors, juices, and soft drinks.
At the main lodge there is a relaxing infinity pool with views of the watering hole. The facility is not fenced hence you are close to the animals and nature. You can take a book from the library and read by the pool as you enjoy the spectacular sunset. Out on the upper deck at night; learn about the southern hemisphere sky with a powerful automated telescope provided by the hotel. Depending on your energy levels there are a variety of activities for you to choose from.
If you are an outdoor person you can go for archery and there is an instructor to guide you. If you are more of an indoor person there is a recreational lounge area with board games and a viewing deck.
