A Wonderful Safari Experience At The Karen Blixen Camp
Karen Blixen Camp is set on the bank of the Mara River with the impressive Oloololo Escarpment in the front and the Mara plains behind; the location is spectacular; throughout the day elephants, giraffes, zebras and impalas come for a drink while a large hippo pod rest lazily in the river. The Karen Blixen Camp is a luxury tented Camp located in the exclusive Mara North Conservancy, within the greater Mara-Serengeti ecosystem. It offers a reflection and feel of yester year’s African experience under the stars, a perfect balance of luxury and responsible tourism.
We tailor make itineraries to your requirements. Your days and nights at the camp are designed to be as exciting or as relaxing as you wish. For amazing wildlife experiences, guests are encouraged to do their game drives within Mara North Conservancy. Mara North Conservancy protects more than 30,000ha of the stunning Masai Mara ecosystem in close partnership with over 750 Maasai landowners and 11 tourism players.
The camp is eco-friendly and has the latest green technologies with a solar panel system for 24 hours electricity, solar water heaters, treatment of wastewater and waste management.
There are several activities that guests can take part in from game drives, game walks, bush meals, hot air balloon safari, nature walks, eco camp walk, a visit to our cooking school, tree planting, spa treatments, helicopter scenic flights/ fishing at Lake Victoria to community visits to the cultural village, local school and church.
Karen Blixen Camp runs a cooking school training youths mostly from the surrounding community to become professional chefs. Guests are welcome to join the students for a session of ‘Ready, Steady, Cook!’
Talks from the guides, naturalists or Chefs can be arranged based on clients’ preferences. An evening can also be enjoyed outdoors by watching the Out Of Africa movie. Drinks and bitings are served during this time.
We work closely with our partner, the Mara Elephant Project (MEP), to protect the savanna elephants, who are threatened by poaching for the illegal ivory trade, climate change, and an increasing number of human-elephant conflicts. Thanks to the generosity of Karen Blixen Camp, MEP operates the only helicopter in the Mara. MEP has had use of the helicopter since 2015 and through this has been able to expand their operation area for rapid response to poaching, injured wildlife, and conflict by 4,000 km2.
