WOMEN FIRST 5km Run

WOMEN FIRST 5km Run is women’s-only run in Addis Ababa performed to mark international Women’s day, it was started in 2004 – the same year as the Athens Olympics

 

  • Ethiopia’s double Olympic gold medalist Meseret Defar is the ambassador for this event.
  • The race has grown into the biggest women’s-only run in Ethiopia and one of the biggest in Africa.
  • The race takes place traditionally around the time of International Women’s day in March.
  • The race highlights the importance of women empowerment.
  • This is the biggest women only event in Africa with over 2000 participants.
