SKAL Luncheon June 2022 Hosted By The Norfolk Fairmont
SKAL Luncheon June 2022 Hosted By Fairmont The Norfolk at the Lord Delamere Terrace.
This month’s SKAL Luncheon was well attended and was hosted by the newly re-opened Fairmont The Norfolk on Wednesday 8th June 2022. The luncheon began with cocktail networking in the lovely and historic gardens of the hotel followed by a lavish lunch spread that included everything from soups, starters, and salads with vegetarian and Non-vegetarian dishes including a live cooking station.
The traditional Skål toast was carried out by Rosemary Muthoni the Director of Sales – Leisure for Fairmont Hotels followed by a few words from Skål President Zipporah Njiri. After which Edith Alusa-Bosire the Chief Executive Officer of Ecotourism Kenya briefed the members on updates on tourism and sustainable tourism matters from what she had gathered from several recent forums and conferences attended by her in the recent past on behalf of Kenya. She emphasized the importance of embracing Digital Presence and Marketing and Data Management which she said were important aspects that each company and stakeholder must implement for the future growth of the organization and the industry. Further, she asked stakeholders to come together rather than individually represented at forums and conferences.
There was an induction of two new members after which lunch was served followed by an introduction of the Fairmont Norfolk Team by Rosemary Muthoni. The afternoon ended with members and guests winning sponsored prizes.

ABOUT SKAL
INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF TRAVEL & TOURISM PROFESSIONALS KENYA CHAPTER
We are the Kenya chapter of a professional organization of tourism leaders, promoting global tourism and friendship. It is the only international group uniting all branches of the travel and tourism industry. Its members, the industry’s managers and executives meet at local, national, regional and international levels to discuss and pursue topics of common interest. The first Club was founded in 1932 in Paris by travel managers, following an educational tour of Scandinavia. The idea of international goodwill and friendship grew and, in 1934, the “Association Internationale des Skal Clubs” was formed with Florimond Volckaert as its first President, who is considered the “Father of Skal”. In Kenya, the first club was founded in XYZ. Skal International today has approximately 15,000 members in 400 Clubs throughout 80 nations. Most activities occur at the local level, moving up through National Committees, under the umbrella of Skal International, headquartered at the General Secretariat in Torremolinos, Spain. The Kenya chapter boasts of 123 members in Nairobi and 456 members at the Coast. Skal International is governed by an Executive Committee of six members, elected by delegates to an annual General Assembly, held during the World Congress, hosted by a different country each year. This allows members first-hand observation of the travel and tourism potential around the world.
