Simba Corporation to Launch Proton Automotive Brand in Kenya

Simba Corporation Limited has embarked on an exciting partnership with Proton Holdings Bhd which will see them providing the assembly, sales and after-sales service for the Proton brand in the Kenyan market. The Proton brand is expected to revolutionize the Kenyan market by providing high value vehicles to the Kenyan consumer at an affordable cost. Its competitive pricing for a brand-new showroom vehicle is expected to establish it as a viable option to many secondhand passenger vehicle buyers in the market.

The Proton vehicles will be assembled at the Associated Vehicle Manufacturers (AVA) plant in Mombasa, which is the largest vehicle assembly plant in Kenya that is also owned by Simba Corporation under the government’s “Buy Kenya, Build Kenya” initiative. Under this initiative, the government has also pledged to prioritize the purchase of vehicles assembled locally as part of incentives to attract more global automakers into the market. Local assembly is seen as critical in job creation and skills transfer which will in turn have a positive impact on the Kenyan
economy.

Proton Holdings is a Malaysian automotive company that is active in automobile design, manufacturing, distribution and sales of several car models including sedans, hatchbacks and SUVs. Proton was established in 1983 as Malaysia’s sole national badged car company and was originally a manufacturer of rebadged Mitsubishi Motors (MMC) products in the 1980s and 1990s. Simba Corporation is also the sole distributor of new Mitsubishi passenger and commercial vehicles in the Kenyan market and therefore Proton will be right at home in the Simba Corporation stable.
