World Lion Day and World Elephant Day Sharing Moments with Wildlife Enthusiast’ Hardik Shiva Vyas
Greetings Universe!
Each year on August 10th, lion lover’s around the globe raise much needed conservation awareness for the ‘Vulnerable’ African lion and ‘Endangered’ Asiatic lion.
World Elephant Day is also celebrated annually on August 12th, and again is a day to generate awareness and to pledge support to initiatives that are protecting and are providing conservation activities to protect these magnificent creatures from poaching and human wildlife conflict.
Here are some of my African Adventure Safari moments with the “King of the Jungle’ and the the “Big Jumbos” in honor and celebration of this years World Lion Day and World Elephant Day
LION CONSERVATION IN KENYA
One of the independent conservation organizations that i highly recommend to support is the Ewaso Lions. Ewaso Lions is dedicated to conserving lions and other large carnivores by promoting coexistence between people and wildlife. They are an independent 100% African wildlife conservation organisation based in northern Kenya which engages and builds the capacity of key demographic groups (warriors, women, and children) by developing approaches to reduce human-carnivore conflict. They conduct applied research and work with the communities to address ecological problems. They also carry out educational initiatives to reinforce traditionally held beliefs and the evolving culture of wildlife conservation across the landscape.
ELEPHANT CONSERVATION IN KENYA
The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust in Kenya embraces all measures that complement the conservation, preservation and protection of wildlife and habitats.
Working across Kenya, the projects include anti-poaching, safe guarding the natural environment, enhancing community awareness, addressing animal welfare issues, providing veterinary assistance to animals in need, rescuing and hand rearing elephant and rhino orphans, along with other species that can ultimately enjoy a “quality of life in wild terms” when grown.
Working alongside the Kenya Wildlife Service, the Kenya Forest Service and local communities their multifaceted approach to conservation is underpinned by their collaboration with local communities bordering Kenya’s National Parks. Working alongside Kenya’s local people is paramount in securing a safe and bright future for both wildlife, humans and reducing human-wildlife conflict.
