Rwandan Film ISETA – BEHIND THE ROADBLOCK Premieres in 195 Countries as the World marks the 28th Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide Against the Tutsi
Nairobi, 1st April 2022: MyMovies.AfricaTM, Kenya’s pioneer Mobile-first Digital Cinema Extension, has premiered a True Story of the Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda: ISETA – BEHIND THE ROADBLOCK, ahead of its 28th Commemoration.
From 7th April 2022, Rwandans around the World will mark ‘Kwibuka’- meaning ‘’to Remember’’, which is an annual Commemoration of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi and Massacre of the moderate Hutu, which lasts 100 Days – that is, the same Duration of this Tragedy, where nearly a Million lives were Lost.
“Kwibuka is an important occasion to Remember the lives Lost, show Solidarity with Survivors and Unite to ensure such a Tragedy never happens again in Rwanda, elsewhere in Africa and the World”, says Co Founder and Chief Executive Officer – Trushna Buddhdev-Patel. “By making ISETA – BEHIND THE ROADBLOCK available on MyMovies.AfricaTM, we Hope that the World will See the Reality of what Ethnic Hatred can Do to Families, Friends and Communities, thus inspiring Peace as a conscious Choice.”
ISETA – BEHIND THE ROADBLOCK, is the Story of Journalist – Nick Hughes, revisiting the Scene of brutal Murders he Witnessed on a quiet road in Kigali, at the beginning of the Darkest 100 days in Africa’s history.
Even though almost one million People were Slaughtered, there is only one known segment of Footage showing any actual Killing, by this lone Cameraman. Years later, this documentary Revisits the Scene, following Nick with Victims, Survivors, Killers and Witnesses. They were all Unaware that they were Filmed, and that the 1994 Moment – unlike a Dream, can be Replayed. As the Footage returns to the Community, friends and family Relive the Tragedy, as they work with Nick to Identify the Victims, and eventually the Killers. From the original Footage, the Story follows a thread of Revelation, of so many souls Lost amidst Ethnic Hatred, during one terrible Hour on a quiet road in Kigali.
This important Film was Created by Nick Hughes (Producer), Eric Kabera (Producer & Director), Juan Reina (Director & Editor), Fabien Muhire (Cinematography), Dushimirimana Thierry (Cinematography) and Kavila Matu (Editor).
“The Genocide against the Tutsi stands as one of the most Horrific events of the 21st Century. This Film is a very human Story, behind the cold Figures of the Genocide, by putting a human Face to that incomprehensible Tragedy”, says British Producer – Nick Hughes, of Vivid Features.
Rwandan Co-Producer & Director – Eric Kabera, of Kwetu Productions, says: “We’re grateful to MyMovies.AfricaTM, for making this Story available, for the World to Learn from our Tragedy. Proceeds will continue to Support our educational Programmes on Genocide and Human Rights.”
