Decisions Agreed On Gradual Reopening Of Tourism Establishments In Kenya
The Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife chaired a meeting between representatives of Ministry of Health led by Acting Director General and CEOs of Kenya Association of Hotel Keepers and Caterers (KAHC), Pubs, Entertainment and Restaurants Association of Kenya (PERAK) and Retail Trade Association of Kenya (RETRAK). The meeting was convened to discuss structured ways of gradual reopening tourism establishments. This will start with restaurants and eateries.
DECISIONS AGREED ON GRADUAL REOPENING OF TOURISM ESTABLISHMENTS
- It is the responsibility of every restaurant or eatery seeking reopening to access the protocols as published by the Ministry of Health and comply with them.
- Each establishment should have its own individual standard operating procedures to guide compliance (www.health.go.ke).
- It is the responsibility of restaurants and eateries and their associations to ensure that they mobilize their businesses, employees and guests to comply with public health guidelines in order to stop the spread of COVID-19.
- Cot of COVID-19 testing will be Kshs.1,000 per person.
- There will be no charges for inspection of compliance for existing restaurants and eateries.
- There will be no charges on the compliance permit issued upon inspection for reopening.
- Inspection will be conducted within 24 hours of submitted applications that have fulfilled all the requirements.
- Two teams were established to consider submissions from tourism stakeholders on:
- Implementation of published protocols on restaurants and eateries
- Proposals on protocols for reopening of hospitality accommodation.
9. The teams are to meet and finalize consultations within one week.

- Ministry of Tourism
- Nairobi County Government/NMS
- Kenya Association of Hotel Keepers and Caterers (KAHC)
- Pubs, Entertainment and Restaurants Association of Kenya (PERAK)
- Retail Trade Association of Kenya (RETRAK)
