Panari Nairobi Reopens Its Ice Rink at the Panari Centre on Mombasa Road
The opening of the Ice Rink was held on Wednesday the 30th of March whereby Hon. Najib Balala CS Tourism and Wildlife was the guest of honour and was accompanied by the Canadian High Commissioner Christopher Thornley, the Hungarian Ambassador Zsolt Mészáros and Orlando Lyomu Group CEO and Marketing Director of Standard Group.
The event was well attended by invited guests and members of the press. During the opening Hon. Najib Balala commended the directors and management on this bold move and emphasized that this will be a boost to ice-skating games, especially after Ice Lions, Kenya’s only ice hockey team, hit global headlines a few years ago. Hon. Balala further indicated that tourism was slowly recovering and the opening of the Ice Rink will give an additional tourism activity to guests. The facility runs on a hybrid system using both electricity and solar power.
“This reopening comes at a time when ice skating is showing great potential and now the hockey team can resume training and prepare to compete on the international stage” he said.
The rink which measures 15,000 square feet was first opened in 2005 and can accommodate 200 skaters at a time.
The General Manager of Panari Hotels and Resorts Devendra Asher, said that pre-pandemic, the ice rink would host close to 450 skaters each weekend. This included corporate groups, families and schools. He further went on to say that the facility was a unique selling point for the centre and the hotel being one of its kind in East and Central Africa. Devendra told guests to use the opportunity of the long Easter weekend to come and try out their skills and enjoy this exciting activity.
