This Week’s Go Places Highly Recommended Nairobi Restaurant Is None Other Than The Newly Opened Ocean Basket South Africa’s Favourite Chain Of Seafood Restaurants.
Yes! It’s back in town and now under new management.
The Ocean Basket is a high toned, garish seafood restaurant located in an upscale shopping mall, The Westgate Mall. It is a favourite for seafood lovers and those curious to dive into it. Upon arrival, one is received warmly by the staff at the entrance where all health and safety protocols are observed. The interior design of the restaurant is a stunning balance of luxury and minimalistic modernity. It is spacious and clean; the walls are artsy with designs related to seafood. The space is high ceilinged with a reclaimed wood beam lighting up the room, in additional to the natural light from the exterior. The furniture is modernist, with a balance of bright and toned down colours which match the décor perfectly. The music at the background is more cultural and unique, that isn’t too loud to ensure that it does not distract you as you engage with your peers.
The menu offers a wide variety of delicious and mouthwatering starters and main courses. For starters, we had the Greek salad, that had sliced cucumbers, tomatoes, green bell pepper, red onion, olives and cheese and we paired it up with the best homemade bread they make that comes with garlic sauce, tartar sauce, chili sauce and margarine. For the main course we had Sushi as well as the Full Deck seafood platter that consists of 30 prince prawns, mussels, calamari, calamari steak strips and fish with an accompaniment of chips and rice. The food paired well with a Chef’s Special Golden Signature sauce that had an unbelievably unique taste. The dishes were freshly made to perfection and the portions were generous. The restaurant also has a wide range of drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. My favourite was the Rose CLR Crafe. One sip and you can feel the symphony of the rose flavour bursting and bubbling its way in your mouth. We also had the Mojito, which they serve by the glass or a one litre pitcher. We finished it with dessert, which was the perfect way to end the day. Ocean Basket’s has a delightful and wide selection on their dessert menu. We opted to try the Affogato, which is ice cream topped with a shot of espresso and Ice Cream with decadent sauce, which mainly has chocolate or butter toffee sauce. I would definitely want to try the Chocolate Lava Cake on my next visit.
The award-winning chefs use the best quality ingredients to produce dishes that are simply wonderful. The service from the waiters is fast and in order. Throughout our time there, the chefs and managers were very warm and thoughtful as they came around to check on our experience and seemed to be authentically engaged.
Overall opinion, I highly recommend this restaurant by the Go Places team. The food is delicious and affordable. The ambience is brilliant. The staff is warm, and quick to their feet. Ocean Basket gets a 5 star rating.
