NARO MORU RIVER LODGE WHERE THE BEAUTY OF NATURE, PERSONALIZED SERVICE AND ADVENTURE ALL INTERTWINE – AN EDITORS EXPERIENCE

Are you looking for an adventure, looking to reconnect with nature, or simply looking for a charming yet homely family-styled escape from the city? Well look no further, because the ever-popular, yet quaint, Naro Moru River Lodge – a legendary getaway set beneath the epic slopes of Kenya’s tallest Mt. Kenya – is simply a must-visit for any local, regional and international traveller.

Only a short 3 to 4hr scenic drive from Kenya’s capital Nairobi (a journey best enjoyed in the early mornings, so you can have more of the day to yourselves at the property), almost evidently sets the right tone for things to come. A warm blanket, a cup of coffee and ultimate relaxation almost invariably creeps in, as you whiz past Kenya’s equatorial greenery and bustling little towns on your way to the property. Slowly but surely as you approach the wooden front gate where the guards register your vehicle and confirm your bookings, you are almost transported into another world of yesteryear.

Beautifully constructed in 1949 by Sir Rufus Klarwill, Naro Moru as it is affectionately known by many, as well as adventurous first time or ardent mountain climbers, the lodge retains its captivating atmosphere of the period in which it was built, and seamlessly combines countryside living with the necessities of today’s modern guest. A quick jump out of our vehicles and keen to see what awaited as we arrived, we were immediately greeted by the lodges cheerful teams with a freshly concocted garden berry juice welcome drink, that really hit the spot.

ACCOMMODATION

As you hand your weekend luggage to the porters at the front desk, you are lead through an enchanting path speckled with beautiful flora, fauna and gardens, with the mighty roar from the banks of the Tigithi River only meters away. Soon you appear at your abode, and at Naro Moru guests are spoiled for choice. For guest stays, the lodge offers a range of accommodations including 12 Standard Rooms, 10 Superior Rooms, 7 Cottages, 44 Bunk Beds, a Campsite that can accommodate 100 people, but our favourite were the (12) Deluxe Rooms complete with fire place.
