Laikipia is a premium destination synonymous with expansive wildlife conservancies and when a chance came for me to visit there was no looking back. We approached this destination via Thika Super highway from Nairobi. This journey takes you through the rolling rugged hills of Muranga county and the green hills of Nyeri with picturestique views of Mt.Kenya and the Aberdare ranges. It took us just short of 3hrs to get to Nanyuki and maybe about 20mins to Maiyan Resort and villas
Our touchdown in Maiyan was well coordinated from the gate all the way to the reception all covid19 safety measures were strictly observed. One thing you notice as you get into Maiyan is how green the place is unlike the neighborhood. We were checked into our rooms at around 1500hrs and there was a golfcart waiting to wheel us with our luggage. I don’t know about you but just like most of us we check around and see if our rooms are comfortable etc. You judge our excitement using the below images . The lighting, décor, space…..it was all just exquisite.
Before we could even freshen up we went to the roof top and the space has a plunge pool and Jacuzzi and just quite enough resting area for 12pax as each unit has two villas each three bedrooms. I couldn’t help but notice how things have changed since my Last visit in 2016. The trees have grown and the landscape is on point it looks like a green oasis in a dry rugged valley with great views of Loldaiga hills, Mt.Kenya and Aberdare ranges from a distance. Surely this is a place of blessing just as the name Maiyan means.
During our late afternoon tea we had a sitting with the groups CEO Mr.Omar Ikram and we learnt that this award winning resort Seats on 146 acres and by the look they have invested quite heavily on landscaping. He said the development draws its inspiration from three elements Blessings, Harmony and excellence. The resort also gets most of its work force from the local community. They undergo training before they are fully absorbed. Everything at Maiyan is thoughtfully place from the homely reception area, colors used to the exquisite décor. At the moment Maiyan Has put in a few extra measures to make the resort habitable for families in a way that children don’t miss their online classes.
Our dinner was on a la carte and the chefs didn’t disappoint. The vegetables were quite fresh which I learnt that Maiyan produces most of its supplies as they have a dedicated farm.
There are a number of activities one can enjoy while here to remain active and to network. This includes Horse riding, tennis, Basketball, volley ball, football, soccer, cycling, boat riding, Cycling, Bird watching..
There are other activities one can explore beyond the resort like having game drives in the nearby wildlife conservancies, mountain climbing, Farm tours, cultural and historical tours etc
One thing for sure is, even for the two night’s stay we had, we felt like we still needed one more. The staff made us feel at home and took care of our every need in a professional hospitable manner. Our stay at Maiyan was impeccable and I know we shall be going back over and over.
On our exit we visited their current development in swara Ranch right across Maiyan. Swara ranch has 34 units of three bedroom selfcatering houses and residents will have full access to Maiyan Amenities.
