Be Part Of The Solution
Dreamed up during passionate conversations over cocktails and samosas, Wasted.Ke was formed by 6 Nairobi-based friends united in their creative aspirations and desire to use their platforms for social good. Consisting of film-makers, photographers, writers, producers and models, the friends quickly formed a collective and got to work. First item on the agenda: lending their voices to address the plastic pollution crisis inundating Kenya’s coastline, with the goal of raising awareness of how serious the problem had become and challenging people of all disciplines to think of solutions more creatively. Hence their joy over finding a discarded toothbrush — click here to see what that was about.
Although sustainable advocacy of this kind isn’t new to the world, the collective was inspired by the lack of context-specific framing of climate change and the challenges it presents to East Africa; where acute impacts of global warming, altered rainfall patterns, loss of habitats and pollution in all forms are felt daily. Determined to use their craft and voices to raise awareness among East-African populations of challenges but also locally-available solutions, the WASTED.KE team aim to produce content, host exhibitions, support eco-friendly activities, raise awareness of sustainable solutions…while continuing to enjoy their cocktails and samosas knowing at least in some small way, they’re doing their part.
We are all guilty.
But we can all do something about it.
