Update And Request For Input On Single-Use Plastics To Be Restricted In Protected Areas By 29th October 2019
On 4th January 2019, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Kenya announced a ban on single-use plastic in protected areas. The government then issued a gazette notice 4858 on 5th June 2019 banning the single-use plastics in conservation areas such as national parks, reserves, forests, wildlife protected areas and beaches. The ban becomes effective on 5th June 2020.
The Ministry of Environment and Forestry after consultations with the producers through KAM and PETCO resolved the following items to be categorized as single-use plastic and will thus be affected during the implementation of the gazette notice 4858.
Towards this end, the ministry is requesting that wider private sector members input on the items listed above and any proposals with a justification of items that can be exempted from the categorization.
