The Boma International Hospitality College had the privilege of representing Kenya at the Young Chef Olympiad 2020 in India hailed as the young Olympics where food is the ultimate game.
The Young Chef Olympiad is the 6th Edition of the world’s biggest culinary competition for student chefs. Organized by the International Hospitality Council (IHC) in association with the International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM), the competition brought together 55 countries from across the world on a similar platform to bring the world closer, via food as food unites people and even so create awareness on sustainability. The event was held between Tuesday, 28th January and Sunday, 2nd February 2020 throughout five great cities of India – Delhi, Bangalore, Pune, Kolkata and Goa.
Georginah Naomi Muthoni a culinary finalist at the BIHC had the opportunity to represent Kenya at YCO 2020 after a competitive selection process among young chefs in Kenya on a variety of platforms that incorporated judges from partner brands and intense training with Chef Loice Katungwa – a culinary instructor at BIHC and Executive Chef, Nicholas Matu of the Hilton Garden Inn Nairobi Airport. Georginah’s career is no mean feat. At 23 she has just completed a dual culinary diploma, gained work experience through BIHC’s vast internships network at Enashipai Resort & Spa in Naivasha as well as Theodore Roosevelt – Medora, North Dakota and the Quail Valley Golf Club – Florida. Her vast experience, passion and dedication earned her a slot at the top 20 in the YCO 2020 finals and she emerged 2nd out of 55 countries in the plate challenge.
BIHC continues to open up such diverse opportunities for its students to not only showcase their skills and knowledge gained from its lauded training but more importantly to influence a generation of hoteliers and chefs influencing the next wave of hospitality appreciation in the world.
