Starters on the Menu at Gogol Pizza, Nairobi
Over the last couple of weeks, this uniquely-styled pizzeria has been in the spotlight for all the right reasons. For its great tasting oven-baked Italian pizza’s, for its provocative yet tastefully inspired Italian décor, for its warm hospitality, and yes for its ever-attentive and unwavering table service too. As avid diners, in-between all that edible indulgence ofcourse, we sat back and began to question ourselves – what really makes a great pizzeria great? And as we did, almost like someone was listening in, one amazing dish after another began to appear on our tables, and no it wasn’t just pizza – but a whole lot more.
Take a seat at your favourite tables, and amidst the calm, a heavenly waft of fire working on fresh dough in a traditional wood-fired pizza oven, sure does work-up an appetite. But as well said by owner Nur, “to truly experience the beauty of Italian cuisine you must be willing to sit back and enjoy it.”
So this week rather than just diving straight into our favourite authentic & international pizza sections of the menu, we followed our gut and the waiter’s recommendations ofcourse to try something a little different and began our meal with their fabulous array of appetizers. To say the least, we simply couldn’t stop.
WHAT YOU SHOULD BEGIN WITH
As the Gogol slogan clearly states, ‘Cheese From Italy, Love from Kenya’, and with that in mind that’s exactly where you should begin on the appetizer menu. These deliciously cheesy creations, may just have you breaking into song.
Start-off with favourites like the Caprese with Slices of Fresh Tomato, Buffalo Mozzarella and Garden Basil.
The Traditional Burrata is a Milk Cheese made from Mozzarella and Cream, and placed on a bed of fresh Baby Spinach with Strips of Focaccia
If you’re looking for traditional Italian comfort food, you’ve come to the right place. Try the Parmigiana made with slices of eggplant, a fresh signature tomato sauce and topped with the finest Parmigiano.
Other recommended must-try starters include the Focaccia & Dips served with Guacamole, Hummus and Eggplant Dip.
AND ON TO THE GRAND FINALE
Although Gogol’s has much more to offer, you’re here for their delicious pizza and we recommend; the Napoli (with Anchovies & Capers), the Tonno (with Tuna & Black Olives), the Prosciutto E Funghi (Beef Prosciutto & Garden Mushrooms), the Capricciosa (with Chicken, Mushrooms & Artichokes) and from the international section you simply must try the Pizza Pesto (Pesto, Buffalo Mozzarella & Parmisan Cheese.
