“We’re very excited about where the Film and Content Industries of Africa are headed! From the Storytelling, to the new technologies and to the new Entrants like MyMovies.AfricaTM”, says Ms. Ojoma Ochai, Managing Partner at Creative Economy Practice at CcHUB. “I am confident that our Partnership with YAKWETUTM, to screen Movies at iHub in Nairobi, via their first service – MyMovies.AfricaTM, will contribute to strengthening the recognition of this growth we are witnessing while helping to strengthen the ecosystem required for sustainability.”

The premiere edition the MyMovies.AfricaTM Watch Party features the Award-winning gritty crime thriller: WHY U HATE, on Wednesday 27th July 2022, from 6 pm-9 pm at iHub Nairobi, Senteu Plaza, Kilimani (7pm-9pm via Zoom). The screening will be followed by an interactive Question & Answer with the dynamic 20-something Director duo of Wanju Kase, as well as Kalasha Award-winning Actress – Ellah Maina, and her Lead – Bernard Irungu.

Produced by Dreamhouse Entertainment, WHY U HATE is about Kwami (Bernard Irungu), who after years of patiently Working in the City and Saving money, so that he could one day go Back to his rural Home; one day Makes for Upcountry with Nothing except a Bounty on his Head, and a Trail of Murder behind him. Does it include his Love Interest – Jasmira (Ellah Maina)?

“For the Film Industry of Kenya and Africa to sustainably grow, there is need for more creative Spaces where Talent can be Showcased to Consumers, as well as potential Partners and Investors”, says Ms. Trushna Buddhdev-Patel, Co-Founder & Chief Executive Officer of Kenyan startup YAKWETUTM. So, we’re excited to Partner with Creative Economy Practice’s STAWI Spaces, at iHub – a place that’s already well-known for Innovation, Partnerships and Investment in Startups. Currently, most Films in Kenya (and Africa) are actually Startups, needing the same Support as a Tech Startup. As such, we’re confident that this Partnership will be another win-win for MyMovies.AfricaTM and our Filmmakers.”

Through the STAWI programme, CEP is also providing access to Free Workspaces in Lagos – Nigeria and Nairobi – Kenya, for Creatives to Showcase and Network. The programme aims to raise awareness and knowledge of the opportunities for innovation and technology application, in the African Creative Industry.
