The Closing Ceremony Of The Athletics Kenya Trials For Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games On 19th June 2021 At Moi International Stadium, Kasarani.

 

Address during the closing ceremony Amb (Dr.) Amina C. Mohamed, Egh, Cav, Cabinet Secretary for Sports, Culture and Heritage said that our athletes had shown impressive capacities in the three days’ trails and it was clear that they are ready to represent our beloved Country, Kenya in the forthcoming Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

The 2020 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXII Olympiad and branded as Tokyo 2020, is an upcoming international multi-sport event scheduled to be held from:

23th July to 8th August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan

Cabinet Secretary indicated that Kenya’s record at the past Olympics is well known. At the 2016 Rio Olympics Kenya garnered 13 medals (6 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze medal). The athletics team has consistently brought glory and honor to our country.

During the long training period the athletes had showcased their skills and knowledge and she was confident that our team will perform well at this year’s Olympics in Tokyo.

Furthermore to safeguard our wins and support our athletes HE President Uhuru Kenyatta established the Sports Fund and directed the Ministry to put in place the structures and systems required for our athletes to realize and maximize their potential.

The use of prohibited substances amongst athletes has impacted sporting communities across the world. She urged our athletes not to allow the temptation to win at all costs and cut short their sporting ambitions and dreams, and even threaten the credibility of your associations and the image and reputation of our country on the global stage.

“Don’t compromise on our goal of promoting free, fair and healthy competitions amongst yourselves and with others”.

She wished the athletes selected for the Olympics all the best as they move to the next stages of their preparations. “You are our ambassadors in Tokyo you carry with you our hopes and aspirations at the games. Protect our image as Africa’s sporting giant and destination”.

For those that did not qualify for the 2020 Olympics, she said that their efforts are on record. “We are proud of your achievements so far and will continue supporting you to realize your potential. Keep the fighting spirit alive and come back stronger”.
