Student Placements At BIHC
At Boma International Hospitality College, internships make up more than one-third of our undergraduate curriculum. We believe placement plays a key role in our student’s education, providing vital, real-world experience at a wide range of leading hospitality brands in the country, across East Africa and beyond.
In 2018, through strategic partnerships over 50 students and alumni paved way for our first J-1 internship cohort. The United States J-1 visa program offers students looking for international experience, overseas networking, and career development within luxurious brands, resorts, and clubs. The program allows interns to plunge into the inner workings of every area based on their concentration and learn how to manage many moving parts. Working behind the scenes, internships in hotels train aspiring professionals to tailor all aspects of a guest’s stay to perfection—from checking in at the front desk to ordering room service to making an appointment at the spa and of course their meals.
2019 marked a greater milestone as we partnered 3 top global partners. First was with the Hilton Hotels & Resorts in the Arabian Peninsula giving assess to over 20 Hilton brands to students for 6 months to 1 year for operational and leadership internships. In addition, we partnered with the Sandals Resorts International which has over 15 luxury properties across the Caribbean islands of Jamaica. Lastly, we engaged with HRC International the largest hospitality placement firm in the world to offer more opportunities for J-1 internships in the United States of America.
A hotel intern can work in several departments. Finance-minded students may take charge of accounting; those versed in the culinary arts may work in the kitchen or food and beverage services; still, others receive training in events planning and banqueting services; and many other opportunities lie in sales, spa management, facility management, and engineering. Placement also provides the benefit of learning a specific culture and management philosophy that determines a brand’s identity.
BIHC students and alumni now form part of a global team by studying in a college that exemplifies practical experience at the world’s most recognizable and prestigious brands. We currently have a January 2020 Intake ongoing and we look forward to welcoming more students to our family
